| 2006 Safari Journal | |||||||||||||||||
I have just returned from another amazing trip to Tanzania this September / October 2006. I went to Tanzania this time in order to better serve you. I was evaluating, inspecting and surveying all of the properties and options available to you regarding your custom safaris. I went from the northern most boarder of the Serengeti (actually 5 miles into the Mara), to central Serengeti, western Serengeti, The Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Arusha. I personally visited and inspected almost all of the properties in all of those areas as well. I wanted to see first hand new properties, make sure that the other properties were still well maintained, see what changes have been made, properties renovated, scheduled future upgrades and to insure that the quality of service, food and hospitality was continuing to be of those standards that we expect. At each property I met with each property manager, thoroughly toured each facility, inspected all room types, the food and beverage department and meal options, guest services available i.e. swimming pool, walking safaris, massage, gift shop, bush dinner, special occasion recognitions and all of the innuendoes specific to each property. I ate boxed breakfasts; picnic breakfasts, boxed lunch, picnic lunch as well as the meals provided if you choose to eat on site at the property. I did full game drives through out all of the areas recording and reporting on the variety as well as the quantity of animals in all of the various regions. It was great to see the National parks during late September and early October, a time frame I had yet to experience. It is always interesting to me to see the animals as they move from area to area, day to day, month to month, from dry season to green season. Animals were plentiful, everywhere!!! As I drove from lodge to lodge and did quick game drives I was still able to see 49 lions, 1 leopard, 3 cheetah, 1 serval and three rhinos. There were so many elephant encounters and at one point I was surrounded by over 200 elephants!! I saw an elephant chasing 8 lions, an elephant having a great time in a mud bath. A newborn elephant right next to the road and groups of elephants ranging from 5 – 20 in a group every few feet for a few miles!!! Too many to count and total. Other highlights were a lioness chasing a Tommie, an albino zebra, 17 giraffes together in a group, 2 lioness with separate zebra kills right next to the road and 18 baby ostrich. From full day game drives, a ½ day game drive through the crater, a night game drive at Tarangire, a picnic breakfast under a tree in the middle of the Serengeti, a picnic lunch overlooking the Tarangire river, visiting the local tribe of Iraqi in their traditional underground homes and staying at the famous Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, I can make personalized recommendations based on more valuable personal experiences. I also evaluated the level of service that we offer, our fleet of stretch land rovers, vehicle maintenance, all of our staff and expert guides, making sure that we continue to provide everything essential to making your safari a wonderful experience that will exceed your expectations. I am looking forward to hearing from you and continuing to refine your safari plans to fit every need and desire you have. Sharon Sharon Lyon |
